I remember the first time I watched Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” in 2019. I was immediately hooked by the excitement and the sheer grit of Formula 1 racing; filled with intense competition and those larger-than-life moments, it’s something else. At the heart of it all, a relentless drive to succeed, whether it’s winning a race, finishing on the podium, or simply a spot on the starting grid.

Among all the teams, one really caught my attention: the Haas F1 Team.

They are a young team with little experience that has struggled to match the pace of other teams. They faced all sorts of challenges, like tyre management, building a competitive car from scratch, maintaining a consistent driver lineup, financial constraints, and so on.

These challenges have made it difficult for the team to improve their game; however, they are always willing to admit that they are still working on it.

Season after season, Haas F1 struggled with on-track difficulties that tested their resolve. The ups and downs of their journey, but they have always shown resilience and determination.

Despite the many hurdles they faced, Haas has shown an exceptional amount of grit. As the underdogs of Formula 1, ‌they’re constantly fighting an uphill battle.

“We’re going to keep fighting” — Guenther Steiner, team principal

What’s really cool about Haas F1 is their seasoned and veteran driver lineup. They bring unique skills and perspectives to the table, enabling the team to thrive through a process of continuous learning, adaptation, and growth.

This season, we’ve seen a change in the team’s driver, with Nico Hülkenberg stepping in to take Mick Schumacher’s place. Meanwhile, Kevin Magnussen continues to shine as Haas’ most accomplished driver. He secured the team’s first-ever F1 pole position during last year’s Sao Paulo GP.

On the other side, Hulkenberg is proving to be a valuable asset as well. His contribution to Haas’s success has been significant. He has helped the team ‌move up the grid and score more points than they have in previous seasons.

His standout performance came when he secured seventh place at the Australian GP in April. But that’s not all — he also added three points to the team’s tally with a solid sixth-place finish in a sprint race at the Austrian GP. He’s never given up on his dream of winning a race, and now, he’s finally starting to see the results he’s long deserved.

Every challenge became an opportunity for Haas F1 to learn and evolve. Yet, with every setback they encountered, they used it as an opportunity to pivot their strategies, build strong partnerships, and improve their engineering skills.

They’ve had a tough ride since it hit the track in 2016, but the team has always bounced back stronger.

Take the 2020 season, for example, the team faced a setback when their star driver, Romain Grosjean, was involved in a horrific fireball crash. The crash ruled him out of the following week’s Sakhir GP, and reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi replaced him.

The impact resulted in the car splitting in two and bursting into flames. Then the COVID-19 pandemic forced the team to shut down its factory for several months. But Haas refused to give up.

Wrapping Up

Haas being a small and underfunded team, has a lot to teach us. When you have limited resources, you have to be creative. Small teams often find innovative ways to be more efficient and perform better.

Every little bit counts, and paying attention to the smallest details can make a big difference in performance, whether it’s tweaking the car’s design, refining pit-stop strategies, or fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Underdogs have something to prove. And Haas is determined to show everyone that they can succeed, against all odds. The team has struggled, but they’re starting to show some promise. They still have a long way to go, but they’re not giving up.

There’s so much to learn in terms of leadership, team unity, and the hunger that’s driving the Haas team to keep fighting and pushing its limits for that checkered flag.

Their journey is a reminder that greatness is not solely defined by wins but by the determination to rise every time they fall.
